Dharamshala: The temple of Bajreshwari Mata located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is world famous. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. This abode of Maa is also famous by the name of Nagarkot. Here Maa is seated with Bhairav Nath in the form of Lord Shiva. According to mythological beliefs, the right breast of Mata Sati fell at this place. This temple has been described in Durga Stuti. Near the temple is Baan Ganga, bathing in which has special significance. Throughout the year, devotees come to the court of Maa and receive blessings, but during Navratri, the beauty of the temple is worth seeing.Nagarkot Dham located in Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh is the best place of Mata Bajreshwari Mata. It is believed that the left breast of Mata Sati had fallen at this place. She is popularly known as Kangra wali Devi. The Bajreshwari Mata temple was rescued by the Pandavas. Later it was re-established by a king named Susharma. Maharaja Ranjit Singh himself came to this temple and offered a golden umbrella to Mata Rani.
A part of it was destroyed. Then the temple was given a new look on the basis of the old structure. This temple, located in the Kangra Fort area along the mountainous section at a distance of 3 km from Kangra Nagar Chowk, has three peaks. Chinese traveler Hwensang has described Bajreshwari Mata of Nagarkot in his description. This temple has been famous not only for its vastness but also for its excellent craftsmanship.
As soon as you enter the temple from the entrance, there is a place for Dhyanu Bhakt in niches on the wall right in front of the temple courtyard, on both sides of which lions are carved. Behind the temple are Surya Devta, Bhairav and Banyan tree, while on the other side are Maa Tara Devi, Sheetla Mata Temple and Dashvidya Bhawan. Giving information, the priest of the temple, Rameshwar Nath, said that the Bhairav here gives information about any kind of evil in advance. He told that when something untoward is about to happen in this area, tears seem to fall from Bhairav’s eyes.
The Makar Sankranti festival here is very special, which lasts for a week. It is believed that in the Satyug, Bajreshwari Mata won the great war by killing the demons, then all the gods and goddesses praised her and applied ghee on the wounds and injuries on the body of the goddess.
Butter was applied on her body and she was given coolness. That was the holy day of Makar Sankranti, since then, following this tradition, every year on the day of Makar Sankranti, five maunds of desi ghee is applied on the mother and the mother is worshipped with butter, dry fruits, seasonal fruits. The goddess is decorated with colorful flowers and creepers. This sequence continues for a week. Devotees come from far and wide to see this festival.
