Tasty Masala Khichdi Recipe: Masala Khichdi is a delicious, nutritious and quick dish that is especially liked when you want to eat something light but spicy. It is made with lentils, rice and vegetables. It can be served with curd, pickle or papad.
Material :
- Basmati rice – 1 cup
- Moong dal (or toor dal) – 1/2 cup
- Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
- Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
- Potato – 1 (cut into small pieces)
- Carrot – 1 (chopped)
- Peas – 1/2 cup (frozen or fresh)
- Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt- as per taste
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Ghee or oil – 2 tablespoons
- Water – about 4 cups
- Green coriander – for garnish
Tasty Masala Khichdi Recipe
- Wash and soak rice and lentils for 15-20 minutes.
- Now heat ghee or oil in a cooker. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida in it.
- Now add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies and fry for a few seconds.
- Then add chopped onions and fry till light golden brown.
- Now add tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and peas. Add turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala and salt and mix well.
- Let everything cook well for two to three minutes.
- Add soaked rice and lentils, then mix everything well.
- Now add about 4 cups of water and close the lid of the cooker.
- Cook on medium flame till 2 whistles, then turn off the gas.
- After the pressure of the cooker is released, open the lid and add green coriander on top.
- Serve Masala Khichdi hot with ghee, papad, pickle or curd.
- If you want, you can also add other vegetables like bottle gourd, beans or capsicum to it.
